Hospitals and GP Surgeries
Most hospitals and GP surgeries still use mercury-containing thermometers or sphygmomanometers which can break, releasing hazardous mercury. If not properly dealt with, these spillages will produce mercury vapour for years, and our hospital pattern spillage kit was co-designed with the pharmacy department at the University of Nottingham Medical School to meet the needs of all medical staff working with mercury-containing devices. Multiple-use, with a long shelf life and with replenishment packs available, it provides an effective low cost solution to managing mercury spillages.
Care Quality Commission Inspections are under way for hospitals and GP surgeries and mercury spillage control measures are part of the CQC Outcomes.
